SNL Mocks NJ School Board Proposal To Rename School For President Trump
The idea was referenced on Weekend Update after a local school board member proposed renaming a school as "Donald J. Trump Primary School."

COLTS NECK, NJ — A New Jersey school board was recently referenced during an episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL).
On Saturday, Weekend Update Co-Host Michael Che alluded to the Colts Neck Board of Education after they made national headlines with a board member’s proposal to rename one of their schools for President Donald Trump.
Though Che didn’t reference the board by name, he did comment on “a school board in New Jersey” that’s considering a proposal “to rename an elementary school after President Trump, named ‘Trump Elementary: Home Of The Fightin’ Allegations.’”

This mention on SNL follows Colts Neck Board of Education member Robert Scales’ recent proposal to create an exploratory committee to rename one of the district’s schools as “Donald J. Trump Primary School.”
According to Scales, the school that would be renamed under the proposal is Conover Road Primary School, which currently serves students in preschool through second grade.
Conover Road is one of three schools in the Colts Neck Township School District and shares a similar name with Conover Road Elementary School, which serves students in grades three through five.
“It’s confusing having kind of the same name for two schools,” Scales said. “But I think if we look at who our true ally is, who we’re modeling things after, the birthday of America, and someone who has contributed a great deal of time to this great town of Colts Neck, it would be our president, Donald J. Trump.”
While no official action was taken on Scales’ proposal during the board’s most recent meeting, his idea was met with both support and criticism from community members.
According to a report from NJ 101.5, if the proposal is eventually approved, the school could become the first public school in the United States named after President Trump.
