Matawan's 2026 Independence Day and 250th American Anniversary celebrations

Matawan's 2026 Independence Day and 250th American Anniversary celebrations will take place on Saturday, June 27 (with a rain date of Sunday, June 28). This year, the Matawan Historical Society is proud to partner with the Borough of Matawan for “Founders, Freedom & Fireworks” — a full day of colonial history, family fun, and a fireworks spectacular celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Held at multiple locations throughout downtown Matawan and free admission all day. Head to Hourihan Field from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM for a historic colonial display, including tomahawk throwing, blacksmithing, cannon firings, and kids' games. There will also be guided tours of the historic Burrowes Mansion. The day of fun will culminate in fireworks blasted over Lake Lefferts Park when the sun goes down.
