Old Bridge Assistant Wrestling Coach Had Sex With Underage Teen, Prosecutor Says

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — A man who worked as the assistant varsity wrestling coach at Old Bridge High School is accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage student at Freehold Township High School, where he also worked as a teacher.

Jesse Heubel, 37, is charged with five counts of second-degree sexual assault and four counts of endangering a child.

Police say he started an illegal sexual relationship with a teen girl who was at least 16 but not yet 18.

Heubel lives in Englishtown. He was the head varsity wrestling coach at Freehold Township High School from 2017 though 2024. He was hired as an assistant wrestling coach for Old Bridge in December 2025, NJ.com reported.

The teen girl told police the two first kissed in a classroom at Freehold Twp. High School after school hours in November 2025. They continued to kiss on school grounds. In February, their relationship escalated to sexual penetration, which took place in the drama classroom after school, the affidavit said, according to the Freehold Patch.

The student and teacher had sexual encounters in a Red Bank parking lot after an awards ceremony, in his car in Englishtown and in a parking lot in Manalapan, alleges the Monmouth County Prosecutor.

Someone found messages “of a sexual nature” between the two on Heubel’s phone, and that person contacted police.

Heubel turned himself in last week and is currently being held at the Monmouth County jail.
