Swimmer Dies After Being Pulled From Water At NJ Beach

SANDY HOOK, NJ — A person has died after being pulled from the water in Sandy Hook late last week, authorities told Patch.

On Thursday, National Park Service lifeguards, park rangers and EMTs, assisted by Sea Bright Fire Rescue and Hackensack Paramedics, rescued a person at Beach B in Sandy Hook, Daphne Yun, a spokesperson for the Gateway National Recreation Area, said.

According to a report from ABC7, two men had gone into the water at the beach when one of them started screaming for help after his companion went under.

A passerby then went into the water to rescue the man and performed CPR until help arrived, the report said.

The swimmer was brought to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead after arrival, Yun said.

Authorities have not released the victim's identity as of Monday morning.

According to the National Park Service website, Beach B is unguarded, and swimming is not allowed there.
