Millburn Warns Residents Of Heavy Rain, Flooding Risk As Storms Move In

MILLBURN, NJ —The Millburn Office of Emergency Management is urging residents to remain alert as a Flood Watch remains in effect from 8 a.m. Tuesday through late Tuesday night, with multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms expected.

Forecasters say showers and isolated storms will develop through the morning before more widespread and potentially severe storms arrive late in the afternoon and evening. The strongest storms could produce torrential rainfall, localized flooding, gusty winds, and an isolated tornado.

According to the National Weather Service, most areas are expected to receive 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated totals of 3 to 4 inches possible. Rainfall rates in the heaviest storms could reach 2.5 inches per hour, increasing the risk of flash flooding.

Township officials said they are actively monitoring the storm system and have taken several precautionary measures, including cleaning catch basins, storm drains, pipes, and grates, and lowering the water level at Taylor Park Pond to help reduce flood impacts. The township's Emergency Management Trailer is also equipped with standby generators and is ready to assist residents with disabilities and access and functional needs if necessary.

Most of the storm activity is expected to end by midnight, with drier conditions forecast for Wednesday and fair weather expected later in the week.
