Uber Driver Threatened Passenger With Baseball Bat In Essex County, Police Say

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn police recently arrested an Uber driver after he allegedly threatened a passenger with a baseball bat during an argument over a canceled ride, police say.

According to the Millburn Police Department, the incident took place on Essex Street near the Millburn Train Station on Sept. 2.

An officer traveling through the area saw a man waving a bat and screaming at another man and immediately intervened, separating the two. After an investigation, police determined that the two men had been involved in a dispute regarding an Uber pickup location. The passenger subsequently canceled the ride – at which point the driver threatened them with a baseball bat, authorities said.

Police arrested the driver – Gustavo Rivas-Cardona, 35, of Linden – and charged him with making terroristic threats, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
