Large Fight Ends With Multiple Arrests In South Jersey, Police Say

FLORENCE, NJ — Two teenagers and two men were arrested on Sunday after an argument turned physical between two groups of people, the Florence Police Department said.

At around 8:15 p.m., officers responded to the 20 block of Amboy Avenue for multiple reports of a large physical fight.

They found a crowd of between 20 and 30 people made up of both adults and minors in the road.

The confrontation started after multiple people were leaning against a parked car that belonged to a resident along the street.

Nearby law enforcement departments assisted due to the size of the crowd and "increasingly agitated behavior."

After orders to leave were repeatedly ignored, police said, a few people refused to cooperate.

Isaiah Matthews, 21, of Florence, was charged with obstruction of the law, hindering apprehension, and resisting arrest.

According to authorities, Matthews approached police on multiple occasions, including one where he shoved an officer, before he fled on foot.

He was arrested after a "brief struggle" with law enforcement at a nearby home and taken to the Burlington County Jail.

Nyel Matthews, 18, of Florence, was charged with disorderly conduct after he was seen by police yelling profanities and refused to leave after multiple warnings.

He was processed at police headquarters and let go on a summons.

Two boys, ages 15 and 17, were taken into custody for disorderly conduct and other obstruction-like offenses.

They would not leave the area and continued to resist officers, police said.

Both boys were processed and released to their guardians.

A few of the people who reported the fight were left with minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
