Lightning Strike Sets South Jersey Bakery Ablaze

MAPLE SHADE, NJ — Two Burlington County businesses are temporarily closed after a lightning strike during Tuesday's severe thunderstorms hit the building and set it ablaze.

"Unfortunately our Maple Shade store was struck by lightning during this evening’s storm and will be closed until we can clean up and repair damage," Tis So Sweet Bakery shared on social media.

The bakery's Haddon Heights location remains open.

The lightning strike also damaged the next door business, L & S Chocolates and Cannon’s Candy & Cake.

"The severe storms that moved through our area caused a fire at the bakery next door. Sadly, our building was also affected and sustained smoke damage, water damage, and a partial roof collapse," the business's owner wrote on Facebook.

The Burlington County Health Department has temporarily shut down the shop.

"We are incredibly thankful that everyone is safe, but we are heartbroken by this unexpected situation," L & S Chocolates wrote. "Our highest priority is ensuring that our store is restored properly and meets every health and safety requirement before we reopen."
