New Mount Laurel Facility Aims To Boost Skilled-Workers Throughout State

Electrical, HVACR, and construction craft labor are among the most sought after fields of study.

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — A new facility for apprenticeship and training in construction industry jobs is now welcoming students in Mount Laurel.

The Simon Levy Apprenticeship Training Center had its grand opening in September and is one of the largest and most comprehensive undertakings of its kind in New Jersey.

The 106,000-square-foot grounds at 116 Gaither Dr. are home to a centralized, hands-on learning environment that supports 26 United States Department of Labor-approved jobs.

Of these skills, the team behind the facility says electrical, HVACR, and construction craft labor are the three most popular areas of trade sought by students.

Instruction is available to all who wish to learn, regardless of background or affiliation, according to the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) New Jersey Chapter.

"Apprentices can build those skills through classroom instruction and hands-on learning that prepares them for the demands of the jobsite," according to Jillian Stengel, ABC Director of Marketing and Communications.

Mount Laurel has housed the Garden State's headquarters for more than a decade, but staff says this new venture has them better prepared for an ever-evolving future in a world where artificial intelligence (AI) feels like it's changing on a daily basis.

"We are focused on tools that make training more practical, engaging, and safe. These include heavy equipment operator simulators and virtual reality headsets...we also plan to add welding simulators," said Stengel.

The ABC, now in its 60th year, represents 24,000 merit shop construction and construction-related businesses across 67 chapters in the United States.

ABC New Jersey is the largest division of the group, representing more than 1,600 members across specialties in the construction field.
