Walmart Standoff Ends With Man In Custody In South Jersey, Police Say

LUMBERTON, NJ — A barricade situation in the Walmart parking lot along Route 38 has ended, the Lumberton Police Department said.

Blake Reed, 38, of Florida, was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to possess a weapon, and obstruction.

On Monday, at around 11 p.m., officers responded to 1740 NJ-38 for a report of a fight between two people that led to a robbery.

Reed then went into an RV and refused officers' calls to get out or to talk with them.

Authorities said they were made aware that Reed may have had a flamethrower and other weapons inside and immediately surrounded the area.

Local police called in for assistance from the New Jersey State Police and Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. A trained crisis negotiator and mental health workers also worked at the scene overnight and into the afternoon.

Reed was taken into custody without conflict by State Police and to a local hospital with minor injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Additional charges against Reed may be added, authorities said.
