Expensive Ingredients Force Morristown Cookie Shop's Closure, Owners Say

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The owners of a Morristown cookie shop have announced what they call "some not-so-sweet news" — that they will be closing the store's doors for good.

The Cookie Connect, located at 88 South Street, will close its doors officially on Aug. 28 after five years of serving Morristown.

Owners say that The Cookie Connect, along with small businesses across the country, is facing an "unprecedented financial squeeze right now."

The sweet shop says that 25 pounds of the chocolate used in its cookies cost roughly $230 a year ago. It now costs $480, more than twice the price, owners say.

"At the same time, we know everyone’s grocery and living bills have skyrocketed, meaning funds for a sweet treat just aren’t as plentiful," a shop statement read. "We could have compromised by swapping our premium ingredients for cheap chemical additives, cutting corners, and stopping our on-site hand-crafting. But making cookies with integrity is our core ethos. We refused to feed you anything less than the best."

The cookie shop added that it "couldn’t fathom" raising prices in this economy, hence its decision to close for good.

Customers have until the end of the month to bid farewell to The Cookie Connect and its staff.

For five years, The Cookie Connect has been providing Morristown with extravagant cookies, including a hot cocoa cookie, a churro-stuffed snickerdoodle, and an apple pie cookie, to name a few. Customers could also enjoy soft serve ice cream, milkshakes, and cereal.

The Cookie Connect's Hoboken, Bloomfield, and Ridgewood locations will continue to operate.

"Thank you for 5 years of unforgettable memories, Morristown," the statement read. "Thank you for welcoming us into your families. We are deeply grateful for every single one of you."

Between June 2025 and June 2026, overall consumer prices have increased by 3.5 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
