Winter Storm Targets Morristown: Latest Forecast, Preparations
Morristown is projected to get more than a foot of snow, forecasts show.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — Public safety officials are hunkering down for what forecasters are expecting to be a major storm this weekend.
A shift in the weekend storm track will see most of New Jersey hit with 12 to 18 inches of snow as the threat of ice increases, according to the latest forecast.
Major impacts, including heavy snow and ice, are expected, the National Weather Service said in a Friday morning briefing.

Morristown specifically is estimated to see more than 13 inches of snowfall this weekend, as of Friday afternoon.
“All eyes are on Sunday into Monday as a significant winter storm may impact the area. While details can still change, the signal is strong enough to start paying close attention and preparing now,” the Morristown Department of Public Safety posted Tuesday. “This has the potential to be a high-impact, cold-weather snow event, and even small changes in the forecast could affect totals and travel conditions.”

Morristown safety officials are urging residents to:
- Monitor forecast updates closely
- Plan for difficult or dangerous travel
- Prepare vehicles, homes, and emergency kits
- Check on vulnerable neighbors and pets
"We have to really be prepared. It's going to be a severe storm with snow and ice. So take precautions, make sure you're prepared. The whole nine yards," Mayor Tim Dougherty said. "This is a major storm. We haven't had one this big, I think, for about 10 years."
Four Morristown parking garages will be open for residents to park for free, to allow ample room on the streets for plows. The free parking is available from Saturday at 7 p.m. to Monday at 8 p.m. Click here to learn how to get a spot.
Additionally, Morristown Town Hall is expected to have a delayed opening on Monday, but that is subject to change to a closure based on the severity of the storm.
Parents should also keep an eye on the Morris School District's website for updates on school closures and delays.
There will be no garbage collection on Monday due to the expected inclement weather. Collection will resume for both North & South Zones in Morristown on Tuesday, January 27th.
A Code Blue has been activated in Morris County from now until the end of the day Tuesday. A Code Blue occurs when the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures reaching 32 degrees or lower.
The National Homelessness Coalition reports that around 700 people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness die from hypothermia annually in the United States each year.
