'Citywide Youth Day' to Bring Family-Fun, Entertainment, Food to Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Families in Newark and Essex County will be able to enjoy a free afternoon of recreation, entertainment, community resources and more this month at "Citywide Youth Day,” which will be co-hosted by Newark nonprofit United Community Corporation (UCC) and Young Black & Gifted Enterprise (YBG Enterprise)

The event will take place Saturday, June 27, from noon to 4 p.m. at the West Side Park Community Center, located at 600 S. 17th St., Newark. The event welcomes all community residents to participate in a wide array of interactive stations and family-oriented programming.

The event will feature the following:

• Free Personal Care: Complimentary professional manicures and haircuts for children and youth.

• Youth Entertainment: A dedicated, high-tech Gaming Truck alongside multiple inflatable bouncy houses.

• Free Food: Complimentary food and refreshments provided to all participating families.
  Special Activations: A FIFA World Cup Activation Station alongside a "Feathers & Friends" Chicken Activation Station, where children can safely meet, touch, and take photographs with live chickens.

• Community & Family Resources: A specialized marketplace featuring child-friendly organizations and local family resource vendors offering social services information.

“Citywide Youth Day is about creating opportunities for young people to connect, learn and have fun in a safe and positive environment,” said UCC Deputy Director Yolanda Loney. “Through activities, community resources, mentorship and family engagement, we are investing in our youth and showing them that their community believes in their potential.”

“Citywide Youth Day is more than just an event, it’s a celebration of community, opportunity and the limitless potential of our young people,” said YBG Enterprise Founder NyJee Coram. “We invite families from across Newark to join us for a day filled with fun, resources, mentorship and meaningful connections.”

Citywide Youth Day admission is free, and all families from Newark and surrounding communities are invited to attend. No pre-registration is required.
