Newark Will Open Fire Hydrants, Local Kids Invited To Splash Around: Local Summer Activities

Here's where and when the hydrants will flow in Newark.

NEWARK, NJ — It’s an iconic image of summer: children splashing around in water from a fire hydrant.

Newark residents will get a chance to soak up some summer memories when firefighters open up hydrants across the city.

According to a municipal advisory, hydrants will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on the following days:

  • Friday, June 26 – Johnson Avenue (from Clinton Avenue to Stratford Place)
  • Saturday, June 27 – 1st Avenue (from North 5th Street to 4th Street)
  • Sunday, June 28 – Summer Place (from May Street to Chester Avenue East)
  • Monday, June 29 – Kormon Street (from St. Francis to St. Charles streets)
  • Wednesday, July 1 – Hermon Street (from Chestnut to Vesey Street)
  • Thursday, July 2 – Hayes Street (from 14th to 15th avenues)
  • Saturday, July 4 – West End Avenue (from Alexander to Valley Street)
  • Sunday, July 5 – Patten Place (from Wolcott Terrace to Hawthorne Avenue)
