New Brunswick Teen Girl Shot And Killed By Her Boyfriend: Police

The two teens were romantically involved, said a spokeswoman for the Middlesex County Prosecutor.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A 16-year-old boy shot and killed a 16-year-old girl in New Brunswick Tuesday afternoon, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and New Brunswick Police Chief Vincent Sabo.

The two teens knew each other. They were romantically involved, said a spokeswoman for the Middlesex County Prosecutor.

It is unclear how the teen boy obtained the gun.

At 2:28 p.m. Tuesday, New Brunswick Police officers were called to a home on Lawrence Street for a 911 call of shots fired. This was the girl's home, where she lived with her family.

Upon arrival, officers located the teen girl with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she was ultimately pronounced deceased.

The teen boy is from Mays Landing and he was at the scene when police got there. He was taken into police custody and charged with acts of juvenile delinquency for offenses, which if committed by an adult would constitute aggravated manslaughter and illegal weapons offenses.

The teen girl was a student in the New Brunswick public school system.

“New Brunswick High School shares its condolences with the community following the loss of a student and reminds families that counseling and support services are available to students in need,” New Brunswick High School principal Cary Fields said Wednesday, the day after the shooting.
