Rabid Skunk Found In New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A sick and ailing skunk was found in New Brunswick Monday, and the animal later ended up testing positive for rabies.

This was announced Wednesday by the Middlesex County Office of Health Services.

The skunk was found in the area of Sicard and Bartlett streets.

On Monday, New Brunswick Animal Control responded to a call regarding a sick skunk. The skunk was taken to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. It was reported Wednesday that the animal tested positive for rabies.

There are no known human and animal exposures to the skunk.

This is the fourth rabid animal reported within Middlesex County for 2026 and the first rabid animal in New Brunswick.
