Rutgers Is Now #14 Top Public University In America

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Rutgers University made strong gains in U.S. News & World Report's 2027 Best Colleges rankings:

Rutgers-New Brunswick is now the #14 top public university in the nation, according to their 2027 rankings.

Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden also both climbed in the rankings.

Rutgers continues to earn rankings in the top 100 of all national universities.

All three university locations earned their highest public university rankings since U.S. News began separately tracking public institutions, while Rutgers–Newark and Rutgers–Camden earned their highest-ever rankings among national universities.

Rutgers-Newark is ranked the #32 public university, up from #36 last year, and Rutgers-Camden moved up to #43 from #46 last year. All three of Rutgers’ locations are among the top 50 public universities and the top 100 national universities.

Rutgers continues to rank high for social mobility among the nation’s top universities. Rutgers-Newark is #6, while Rutgers-Camden is #16 and Rutgers-New Brunswick ranks third among the Big Ten’s 18 universities and #57 among national universities. The social mobility score, which assesses how well schools enroll and graduate economically disadvantaged students, is part of the annual U.S. News rankings of over 1,700 colleges and universities.

“These rankings reflect Rutgers’ sustained investment in academic excellence and social mobility. Our EDGE agenda builds on that commitment by seeking to further advance the quality of our academic programs, expand access and affordability, and strengthen student success efforts,” said Rutgers President William F. Tate IV.

The 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings were calculated using up to 17 key measures of academic quality and graduating student outcomes.

Rutgers-New Brunswick, the university’s member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Big Ten Conference, is #44. Rutgers-Newark is #73 and Rutgers-Camden is #95.
