Longtime New Providence Police Lt. William Snyder Dies

The retired lieutenant served New Providence for more than 27 years after four years in the U.S. Navy.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — A retired New Providence police lieutenant who spent decades serving the borough has died.

The New Providence Police Department announced the death of retired Lt. William Snyder, who served the department and borough residents for 27 1/2 years, from 1964 to 1991.

Before becoming a police officer, Snyder served four years in the United States Navy.

“We will sorely miss seeing Lt. Snyder around town and at our functions,” the department said.

Police thanked Snyder for his “years of dedicated service to our community and country” and offered thoughts and prayers to his family.
