$19.7M Contract To Repair Absecon Island Outfall Pipes

ABSECON ISLAND, NJ — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District has awarded a $19.695 million contract to Agate Construction Co. of Egg Harbor Township to repair multiple ocean outfall pipes along Absecon Island, according to an announcement Thursday.

The contract covers work in Atlantic City, Ventnor City and Margate. The Army Corps said the project calls for the repair or extension of outfall pipes at New Jersey Avenue, St James Place, Virginia Avenue and California Avenue in Atlantic City, Jackson Avenue in Ventnor City, and Nassau Avenue and Vendome Avenue in Margate.

The contract also includes repairs to the New Haven vehicular access ramp in Ventnor City. The work is part of the Absecon Island Coastal Storm Risk Management project, according to the Army Corps.

The project is cost-shared with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the local municipalities.

Outfall pipes are part of the shore infrastructure that carries water away from developed areas, and the contract focuses on multiple locations across the barrier island. By spanning three communities, the work ties into a broader coastal project involving federal, state and local partners.

The Army Corps said it will coordinate with Agate Construction Company on a schedule. The agency also said it will share updates on its webpage as the work moves forward.
