Rocket Device Found On Jersey Shore Beach

CORSON'S INLET STATE PARK, NJ — Corson's Inlet State Park was temporarily closed Monday afternoon after a rocket device was discovered on the beach, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

The rocket-assisted supply line launcher was found at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, DEP spokesman Vincent Grassi told Patch.

Out of an abundance of caution, New Jersey State Park Police cleared the beach until the New Jersey State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit arrived and removed the device for destruction, Grassi said.

A rocket-assisted supply line launcher is a tool used by ships to establish an initial connection between ships at sea or between a ship and shore. The device uses a small pyrotechnic rocket to propel a lightweight messenger line.

The state park reopened at about 5 p.m.
