Bollywood, Hollywood Movies Coming To Parsippany Park

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Movie nights are coming to Veterans Memorial Park in Parsippany, with a mini-series featuring a Bollywood classic followed by a Hollywood favorite chosen by residents.

The series kicks off Saturday with a screening of the 1975 Indian film Sholay beginning at 7 p.m.

The action-adventure film, directed by Ramesh Sippy and starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri and Amjad Khan, has become one of the most celebrated and influential films in Indian cinema.

Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the outdoor screening.

Parsippany's second movie night is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 7 p.m., but this time residents will decide what appears on the screen.

The township is asking residents to vote among five family-friendly Hollywood movies, each with a connection to New Jersey:

• School of Rock, which filmed scenes in Rahway and Edison
• Annie, which filmed at Monmouth University
• Big, which filmed at locations throughout North Jersey
• The Karate Kid, whose main character Daniel LaRusso is originally from Newark
• The Wedding Singer, which is set in Ridgefield

The movie receiving the most votes will be screened Sept. 12 at Veterans Memorial Park.

Residents can cast their vote through the town's online survey.

Admission to both movie nights is free. Pets are not permitted.
