North Jersey Woman Killed, Daughter Injured In Head-On Car Wreck, Police Say

LAKE HIAWATHA, NJ — A Lake Hiawatha woman and her mother were identified as two of three people involved in a fatal car wreck in Sussex County this weekend.

Katherine Tevis, 60, was one of the drivers in the accident, according to police. Her passenger, her 83-year-old mother, Nancy Tevis, of Hopatcong, did not survive the crash, authorities added.

On Saturday, around 2:15 p.m, Andover Township police were called to US Highway 206 near the Andover Borough line on reports of a major crash.

Authorities determined that a Ford Fusion, driven by Katherine Tevis, was traveling northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Nissan Murano being driven by Patricia Consentino, 58, of Andover Township, officials said.

Following the crash, Consentino was airlifted to the Morristown Medical Center, and Katherine Tevis was transported by ambulance to the Morristown Medical Center.

Nancy Tevis was rushed to Newton Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police say. According to her obituary, Katherine Tevis is Nancy's daughter.

The crash remains under investigation, and there have been no updates on the injured parties' conditions.

"Nancy will be remembered for her dedication to education, her love of family, her gentle affection for animals, and the many lives she touched throughout her years," the obituary reads. "She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her."
