"I am sorry that I must report that one of our students has passed away," LaSusa wrote. "We send our most heartfelt and deepest sympathies to the Abed family at this terrible time."
Princeton Middle School has activated crisis support in response to the student's death. LaSusa said district counseling staff and representatives from the Mercer County Traumatic Loss Coalition are available to all students and staff, with additional resources to be deployed to other schools as needed.
LaSusa also acknowledged that some students may be too grief-stricken to attend school. "We also understand that some students might not be able to report to school due to their sadness," he wrote. "In that case, please also alert your child's school so that we may connect with the child upon their return."
Parents with concerns are encouraged to contact their child's school counselor. Additional school-level communication may follow throughout the day, LaSusa said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Princeton Police Department's Serious Collision Response Team in coordination with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
