Man Fired Gun Through Window Of Red Bank Home, Police Say

RED BANK, NJ — A Red Bank man is facing multiple charges after he was accused of firing a gun through his neighbor's window.

Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, Red Bank Police responded to a reported shooting on Leighton Avenue.

Before police arrived, officers learned that a projectile had entered the home, narrowly missing a person who was inside.

Once police arrived, they spoke with a resident who confirmed that a bullet had entered the home through a window, traveled through the house and ended up lodged in the wall.

Someone who lived in the home was in the room where the bullet entered, though no injuries were reported, police said.

As Red Bank Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office investigated the incident, they obtained a search warrant for the adjacent property on Newman Springs Road.

After executing the search warrant, additional evidence was recovered, including suspected controlled dangerous substances, 15 unregistered firearms, two rifles and 13 handguns.

The Newman Springs Road resident, Michael Furfaro, 39, was arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of penetrating bullets and possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines, police said.

Red Bank Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the origin of the firearm and the circumstances under which the weapon was discharged.

At this time, the investigation remains active. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues, and evidence is reviewed.

"The Red Bank Police Department would like to remind residents that anyone who witnesses or hears what they believe may be gunfire should immediately contact 9-1-1 and provide dispatchers with as much information as possible, including the location and direction from which the sound originated," police said.

"Residents should not approach or attempt to investigate suspected criminal activity themselves."
