MCM Airlines Presents Airplane! — A Totally Rad 1980s Movie Night Experience

RED BANK, NJ — Prepare for takeoff.

Marquee Classic Movies is turning the Count Basie Center Cinema House into “MCM Airlines” for a one-night-only immersive screening of the legendary comedy classic Airplane! — complete with 1980s costumes, audience participation, trivia, themed surprises, and movie passes awarded for the best dressed attendees.

Guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Airplane! character, airline crew member, over-the-top passenger, or in their best totally rad 1980s attire as the theater transforms into a comedic flight back in time.

Known for creating interactive classic movie experiences that combine film, nostalgia, comedy, and live audience engagement, Marquee Classic Movies continues its mission of making classic cinema feel like an event — not just a screening.

“We wanted this to feel like audiences are actually boarding a crazy 1980s airline,” said Debbie Higgins, co-host of Marquee Classic Movies and longtime film critic. “Airplane! is one of those rare comedies where people still quote the lines decades later. Seeing it with a crowd, hearing the laughter ripple through the theater, and having everyone dressed up and participating makes it a completely different experience from watching it at home.”

Joe DeIorio, co-host and producer of Marquee Classic Movies, said the event embraces the playful spirit that has become part of the group’s growing reputation.

“We’re inviting people to let loose and have fun with this one,” said DeIorio. “From the moment guests arrive, they’re stepping into MCM Airlines for a ridiculous trip back to the 1980s. Expect costumes, comedy, audience interaction, and a room full of people laughing together. These are the kinds of movie nights people remember.”

Released in 1980, Airplane! became one of the most influential comedy films ever made, starring Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The film helped redefine parody comedy with its nonstop visual gags, rapid-fire jokes, and deadpan performances.

The evening will also include themed pre-show entertainment, audience interaction, photo opportunities, and surprises inspired by the era and the film itself.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for boarding.
