Red Bank Prepares For Incoming Nor'easter

RED BANK, NJ — Storm preparation is underway in Red Bank as the borough prepares for a powerful nor'easter set to hit the Jersey Shore this weekend.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, the developing nor'easter is tracking closer to the Jersey coast than previously expected, raising the threat of damaging winds, dangerous surf and repeated rounds of coastal flooding through Saturday night.

Confidence in the coastal and marine threat has also increased through Saturday night, while the forecast for Sunday remains less certain because impacts will depend heavily on the exact track of a developing storm offshore, the Weather Service said.

In Red Bank, DPU crews have started the morning by clearing storm basins and addressing drainage areas ahead of the expected storm.

According to borough officials, this work is part of Red Bank's coordinated preparation to help reduce flooding risks and keep our community safe.

"Thank you to our crews working behind the scenes to get Red Bank storm-ready!" borough officials said.

Ahead of the storm, the Red Bank Office of Emergency Management has offered the following storm preparedness tips:

• Supplies: A disaster supply kit should contain: a first aid kit and
  essential medications, canned/non-perishable foods and non-electric opener, at least three gallons of water per person, protective clothing, rainwear, bedding or sleeping bags, battery powered radio, flashlights and extra batteries. Remember to stock special items for infants, elderly or disabled family members.
• Preparation:
  • Check batteries, stock up on canned food, first aid supplies, drinking water and medications.
  • Fill your vehicle's gas tank.
  • Bring in any lawn furniture, outdoor decorations/ornaments, trash cans, hanging plants and anything else that might be picked up by the wind.
  • Determine where to move your boat in an emergency.
  • Trim trees and shrubbery of any diseases or damaged limbs to make them more wind resistant.
  • Listen to local radio and television stations for instructions
  • Listen to the advice of local officials and leave if they tell you to do so.
• The Red Bank Volunteer Fire Department urges residents to use flashlights at all times and avoid using candles if at all possible.
  • If it is necessary to use candles, please exercise extreme caution and NEVER leave them unattended.
