Woman Dies After Car Overturns On Garden State Parkway, NJ State Police Say

The car ran off the road, struck a metal storm drain cover and multiple trees before overturning and going up in flames, police said.

TINTON FALLS, NJ — One person has died following a Garden State Parkway crash early Sunday, NJ State Police told Patch.

At 3:59 a.m. on Sunday, troopers responded to the crash on the Garden State Parkway express roadway south at milepost 108 in Tinton Falls.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said Kelvin O. Gomez-Fuentes, 23, of Long Branch, was driving a Toyota pickup truck south on the Garden State Parkway, with front seat passenger Katherine E. Andrade-Portillo, 27, of Long Branch.

In the area of milepost 108, police said the Toyota ran off the roadway to the left, struck a metal storm drain cover, struck multiple trees and overturned, before becoming engulfed in flames.

As a result of the crash, Andrade-Portillo sustained fatal injuries.

There were no other injuries reported on scene, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by NJ State Police.
