North Jersey Streets Flood During Thunderstorms: See Dramatic Photos

NORTH JERSEY — At least two people were rescued from a trapped car and many homes lost power on Friday night when a thunderstorm swept through North Jersey.

"This evening’s storm brought another challenging evening for our firefighters," the Glen Rock Fire Department said on social media. "Our department responded to 15 calls for service related to flooding throughout the evening."

They noted, "One of the most serious incidents involved a vehicle trapped in floodwater with two occupants inside. Working alongside [police], our members entered the water and pulled the two occupants to safety."

Power Outages

Ridgewood police noted that a tree took power lines down near North Monroe Street and West Ridgewood Avenue.

While hundreds of homes in North Jersey lost power on Friday night, by morning, Orange & Rockland reported only 71 Bergen county customers and 28 Passaic County customers still without power.

PSE&G reported numerous outages throughout New Jersey on Friday night, including in Hoboken and North Bergen. The number was down to 391 statewide by Saturday morning.

"Due to downed wires, downed trees, and impacted traffic lights, 14th Street is closed from Park Avenue to Willow Avenue," the city of Hoboken said in a message Friday. "The city is aware of power outages in north Hoboken. Please report any power outages to PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734."

Glen Rock's Volunteer Fire Department took the opportunity to encourage residents to join up.
