Pizza Reviewer Dave Portnoy Rates Bergen County Restaurant: What's The Verdict?

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Dave Portnoy, the pizza reviewer who owns Barstool Sports, stopped by a Bergen County pizzeria last week while on tour to promote his new memoir, "Cancel Me If You Can."

Portnoy posts popular YouTube videos about life, sports, and pizza reviews.

In the ensuing weeks, he stopped into a handful of New Jersey pizzerias to give his famously quick one-bite reviews.

Portnoy typically visits a shop, gives a bit of its history, takes a bite of hot pizza, and rates it on a scale of 1 to 10.

Shops with high ratings have seen a swell of business.

What's The Verdict?

In the video posted on Friday — which has already received more than 1.5 million views — the publishing maven stopped into Crispy Crust Pizza on West Palisades Avenue in Englewood.

A sharply dressed Portnoy said, "I'm exhausted. I'm on my book tour. I feel like gross garbage."

Portnoy's staff said he was taking advantage of a 50/50 deal to get both a Sicilian pizza and a classic round pie.

Portnoy sampled the round pie.

"I like the crust in terms of, looks floury fresh," he said.

Before he could continue, two women stopped by, telling Portnoy they'd been coming to the pizzeria for 50 years. One woman, who said she was 62, visited under a previous owner, she said.

"I've been here 50-something years. It's excellent," she said.

Portnoy said, "57 years; I always love that long story. I'll go 6-8 on the review."

His 6.8 score places Crispy Crust among the middle tier of more than a thousand pizzerias he's reviewed.
