Joe Territo will discuss how local newspapers strengthen civic life, how advances in technology have transformed community journalism, and why the Corporation for New Jersey Local Media (CNJLM) recently consolidated its individual town newspapers into county-wide print editions. He will also explain how residents and organizations can help support local journalism and submit news tips and event announcements for coverage. Joe is CEO and Publisher of the Corporation for New Jersey Local Media. He began his journalism career as an intern at the Roxbury Register, later becoming a reporter for The Star-Ledger and a founding editor of NJ.com. He later held executive positions with Advance Local and other digital media organizations before joining CNJLM

We hear presentations most Tuesday mornings in an auditorium in New Providence, and we have many other activities including discussion groups, sports and outdoor groups, and celebrations. Dann Kabala will trace the evolution of NIL, discuss its far-reaching impact on college sports, and examine how the transfer portal and athlete compensation are reshaping today's collegiate landscape.&nbsp; Dann is Vice President of Name, Image, and Likeness at Rutgers University, where he oversees third-party NIL operations for all sports. Before joining Rutgers in January 2026, he spent eight seasons at Penn State, leading its NIL program and its 5th Quarter/Player Development department. Congregation Beth Israel

Congregation Beth Israel (CBI) in Scotch Plains will hold its annual family service on Erev Rosh Hashanah, Friday evening, September 11, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.This child-friendly service is free and open to the community. 
The one-hour service will usher in the Jewish New Year and Shabbat with songs, stories and prayers. Rabbi Howard Tilman and Cantor Jacob Greenberg will officiate.
“The Rosh Hashanah family service is a beautiful way to begin the holiday together as a Jewish community,” said Rabbi Tilman. “Welcoming people of all backgrounds, experience levels and ages reflects so much of what we strive to be. The New Year is a time of hope, possibility, and renewed connection to our identity, and we invite the wider community to join in this special Rosh Hashanah celebration.”
There is no need for synagogue membership or tickets to attend CBI’s family service. However, registration is required at cbinj.org/event/erevrh5787
Congregation Beth Israel is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, serving the religious, educational, cultural and social needs of congregants from Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Westfield and surrounding towns. Free Family Service for Erev Rosh Hashanah at Congregation Beth Israel

The Fanwood Performance Series presents an evening of jazz featuring The James Austin Jr. Trio and pianist/composer Ellie Lee.
Austin's trio will perform “Songs in the Key of Wonder &amp; More” – a program featuring tasteful arrangements of compositions by Stevie Wonder, along with jazz standards.
Lee's work blends a variety of styles including jazz, classical, pop, R&amp;B/soul and gospel.&nbsp;The show takes place in the Patricia M. Kuran Cultural Arts Center at the Carriage House, on Watson Road just west of Martine Avenue, next to Fanwood Borough Hall. The suggested donation for admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors – cash at the door. 
Seating is limited, so those planning to attend are urged to make reservations by emailing <a href="mailto:fanwoodperformance@gmail.com">fanwoodperformance@gmail.com</a>
with the number of seats requested.
Austin, who hails from Chicago, has performed alongside an illustrious list of singers and musicians in diverse settings throughout the world, and served as pianist and arranger for two star-studded concerts at Carnegie Hall. He is regularly featured as a pianist and bandleader for various live concerts, theatrical performances, and civic and charitable events around the New York-New Jersey metro area. He has curated and led the NJPAC Jazz Jam Session series since its inception.
Lee grew up in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to the U.S. when she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. She later received a Master of Music degree from William Paterson University in Wayne. In addition to performing extensively in the New York-New Jersey area, Lee teaches as an adjunct professor at Felician University in Rutherford.
