Chemical Spill Reported At North Brunswick Shopping Center

According to media reports, seven people were injured.

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — North Brunswick police are asking the public to stay away from a section of the North Brunswick Shopping Center on Milltown Road after a chemical spill was reported Thursday morning.

Police issued a public safety alert around 8 a.m. asking people to avoid the plaza, specifically the area around LA Fitness, until further notice. The shopping center also houses Dollar Tree, Lidl, a salon and a bakery.

Deputy Police Chief Brian Hoiberg told News 12 that at least seven people were injured and that early indications suggest the incident was a chlorine leak, which has since been contained.

North Brunswick police, fire, and EMS crews responded to the scene, along with a hazmat team from Middlesex County.

There are no road closures, but people are being asked to stay away from the Brunswick Shopping Center, specifically LA Fitness, while emergency services operate at that location.
