South Brunswick Police Take On NJ State Fire For Make-A-Wish

The March 14 fundraiser doubles as a team-vs-team donation competition, with the winner announced at the game.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A local police union hockey team is hitting the ice next weekend to raise money for children with critical illnesses.

They will be pitting officers against a rival squad in a charity game where the real competition is who can raise the most money for Make-A-Wish New Jersey.

South Brunswick PBA Local 166 will face off against the NJ State Fire Hockey Team on March 14 at ProSkate Arena, located at 1000 Cornwall Road in Monmouth Junction. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.

The event is being called "Goals for Wishes," a fundraiser in which both teams compete not only on the ice but also to see which side can collect the most donations before the final buzzer. The winner will be announced at the game.

All proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish New Jersey, which grants wishes to children diagnosed with critical illnesses. According to the organization, more than 70 children are diagnosed with a critical illness every day in the United States.

Research cited by the organization suggests that having a wish granted can help children build the physical and emotional resilience needed to fight their illness.

Admission is $20. Children age 5 and under are admitted free. Donations can also be made in advance by scanning a QR code on the event flyer.
