Springfield Kicks Off Pride Month With 8th Annual Flag Raising, Movie Night
The May 29 celebration featured "Wicked" on a big screen, student performances and a proclamation from Mayor Harris Laufer.
SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The Township of Springfield kicked off Pride Month with its 8th annual celebration at Chisholm Park on Friday, featuring a rainbow flag raising, an outdoor screening of "Wicked" and performances by local student groups.
Mayor Harris Laufer offered greetings and issued a proclamation at the event, joined by Union County Commissioner Rebecca Williams and State Assemblyman Vincent Kearney. Student speaker Alvaro Benevides also addressed the crowd.
Musical performances were provided by the Jonathan Dayton High School All Stars and Front & Center for Performing Arts. Treats and drinks were available from Halo Roasters, with popcorn and rainbow ice pops courtesy of the Springfield Recreation Department. Pride swag was distributed by the Recreation Department and the Jonathan Dayton High School G.S.A.

The event was organized by the Recreation Department, with greetings from Director Adam Lieb, Assistant Director Brendan O'Reilly and Recreation Program Coordinators Erica DuBois, Ilene Wilkenfeld and Samaar Nelson.
