Major NJ University Merger Moves Closer To Reality, New Report Says
A recent approval is bringing the Kean University and NJCU merger closer to its expected July 1 start date, according to NJ.com.
JERSEY CITY, NJ— The commission confirmed Kean University as the surviving institution as the two universities continue working through consolidation steps,NJ.com reported. Under the current plan, New Jersey City University will be absorbed into Kean University and renamed Kean Jersey City on July 1.
The merger will combine Kean’s roughly 17,000 students with NJCU’s about 5,500 students, making it one of the largest public university mergers in New Jersey history, according to the report. The deal still requires final approval from the U.S. Department of Education before it is completed.
