Summit To Honor Fallen Firefighters This May
The Summit Fire Department will take part in national memorial events on May 3 honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty.
SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Fire Department will join communities across the country this May in honoring firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The department will participate in the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 3 in Emmitsburg, Maryland, along with national tributes including Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters and Bells Across America, according to a city news release. This year’s events will honor 204 firefighters nationwide, including those who died in 2025 and in previous years.
In Summit, the remembrance will also be visible locally. The firehouse at 281 Broad Street will be lit in red leading up to the memorial weekend, and the fire bell will be rung at 10 a.m. on May 3 as part of the national tribute.
