13 Cars Burglarized, 1 Stolen Overnight In Same Bergen County Town: Police

TEANECK, NJ — Teaneck police are investigating at least 13 car burglaries and one car theft that occurred overnight on Wednesday, they said.

Police said that almost all of the cars burglarized were Hondas.

Deputy Police Chief Seth Kriegel said that around 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, a Madison Avenue resident reported that three of their cars had been burglarized.

Police looked around and determined that 13 cars in the neighborhood had been broken into, including on Thompson, Summit, Lucy, and Harding avenues, and East Lawn Drive.

Around 4:09 a.m. Wednesday, police said, an East Cedar Lane resident reported their Honda CR-V stolen. It was recovered later on Harding Avenue.

Gone In 30 Seconds

The thieves took personal items and airbags, police said.

Surveillance video showed thieves in face coverings entering the cars.

In one case, Kriegel said, a thief was able to enter a car, swipe an airbag, and leave within 30 seconds.

Police said that besides Hondas, one Acura was involved.

Some cars were accessed because they were unlocked, police said, while in other cases, thieves smashed windows or broke locks.

Police are investigating.
