<h2>Weekly Children’s Art with Miss Jess</h2>
April 2nd, 16th &amp; 23rd
Class Overview: $100
Thursdays 4:15pm-5:15pm Ages 7-14 This is a 60-minute, instructor-led 4 week art session designed to ignite creativity and exploration across a variety of mediums each month. Projects may include drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking and craft materials, often combining two or more techniques into a single project.
 Each month’s session introduces new mediums and techniques ensuring fresh experiences for every student. Students learn foundational art concepts like color theory, composition, form, perspective, balance, movement and texture, while gaining confidence, independence and expressive skills. Some programs incorporate lessons on classic and contemporary artists, global art styles, or cultural concepts to inspire our young artists as they create. Student work often extends across multiple sessions to deepen their artistic engagement and skills. Small class sizes enable personalized attention. All sessions include all supplies in the tuition.

Everyday Choices for the Earth: Hope through Our Multiplied Actions presented by Debbie McGuire - With recent flooding, drought and wildfire stories in the news, people can feel hopeless about climate change.&nbsp;&nbsp; However, every day individuals can make more climate-friendly choices about food, clothing, transportation, travel, etc.&nbsp; These good choices can be multiplied&nbsp;in order to have an impact on climate change.&nbsp; Thus, individuals can be helpful for, and hopeful about the future of our planet.&nbsp; &nbsp;
Debbie McGuire is a passionate environmentalist who has washed thousands of cloth napkins and T-shirt cleaning rags in her lifetime.&nbsp; This passion originated in Dr. Stanley Becker’s college class many years ago.&nbsp; Since then she has lived as an environmentalist making daily choices to match her research findings.&nbsp; With the arrival of her first grandchild she found a stronger desire to help ease the climate change burden on the planet. Her first book, God’s Good Earth- An Environmental Bible Study, compares God’s design for the Earth in Genesis to the condition of the Earth today.&nbsp; This book brought to light questions about daily choices for their relative environmental impact.&nbsp; Thus, Debbie researched and wrote the book:&nbsp; Everyday Choices for the Earth - Hope through Our Multiplied Actions.&nbsp; Having a grandchild was the impetus for her other two books: My Blueberry Day, and EASY Parenting (Pen Name: Judy Aran). &nbsp; Debbie and her husband live in a home with gardens and a natural forest, which bees, birds and animals enjoy.&nbsp;

Instructor: Joseph Rogine
These classes are designed for both beginning to advanced students who want to sharpen their skills in drawing. I have taught students for over 25 years who have never picked up a pencil to draw to those who have been quite advanced.
It is an academic course, (academic being defined as that which can be taught). Drawings are created by copying master drawings, simple to complex still-life objects and classical plaster casts. The student usually begins by copying a master drawing that is supplied to them.
All students start out using graphite pencils with grades of 2H HB 2B. The capabilities and limitations of drawing materials and drawing instruments are discussed at length along with their proper handling. Classes are essentially about learning how to see nature and the world as an artist sees it, through the language and medium of drawing.
The student’s eye will gradually become trained and sensitive on how to compose a layout on the page, assessing proportion, elementary perspective, gauge angles, identify shapes, access the degree of curvature of forms, locate hidden movements and linear rhythms, the structure and modeling of form and the study of light and shade. This opens a whole new world towards a visual literacy that was very common in school curricula 100 to 150 years ago.
Depending on a students’ progress and particular interest repeat students are free to experiment with various drawing mediums like charcoal, pastel pencil, pen and ink etc., along with the drawing surfaces applicable to their chosen medium. <a href="https://www.ocartistsguild.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Joe-Rogine-supply-list-2023.pdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Joseph Rogine supply list 2024.</a>

Spring is here, and it is a wonderful time to book your special birthdays and teatimes at the Mathis House. The Spring Victorian Afternoon Tea is available daily from Tuesday to Sunday. Mid-week seating starts at 11 AM, and teatimes are held by reservation every hour on the hour, with the last seating at 3 PM. Weekend seating times are 11 AM and 3 PM. The Spring Victorian Afternoon Tea includes a choice of soup, a seasonal salad, a warm scone with clotted cream, lemon curd, and preserves, a variety of five tea sandwiches, and a plate of petite desserts with a pot of gourmet tea per person. The cost is $50 (plus tax and gratuity) for adults, $20 for children 12 years old and under, and free for children 5 and under with an adult.
