Shooting By Police Officer Under Investigation In South Toms River
The shooting was not fatal, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
SOUTH TOMS RIVER, NJ — Authorities are investigating after a police officer shot a person in South Toms River Wednesday night.
The shooting was not fatal, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
It was reported at 9:49 p.m., he said.

Residents were told to avoid the area of South Main Street and Dover Road in an alert from the Ocean County Sheriff's Office about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, and said there was no active threat.
Billhimer said the shooting is under investigation by the major crimes unit of the prosecutor's office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

He said he cannot release additional information about the incident until the investigation is complete and is reviewed by the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, under a standing 2006 order from the attorney general's office regarding shootings involving police officers.
