Cedar Grove Banks On Nearly $496K Riverbank Fix

CEDAR GROVE, NJ — Cedar Grove is preparing to shore up a collapsed section of riverbank before the problem gets deeper.

The township expects to award a contract of up to $495,940 for stabilization work along the Peckman River at 615 Pompton Avenue, according to the August manager’s memo.

For Cedar Grove residents, stabilizing the collapsed riverbank would help protect nearby municipal property and prevent the damage from worsening.

Plans call for securing 200 feet of collapsed riverbank with a 16-foot bin-block retaining wall. The memo does not identify the contractor or provide a construction schedule.

Cedar Grove previously allocated $300,000 from its Capital Improvement Fund for separate bank repairs and engineering along Taylor’s Brook near the Town Hall driveway off Bowden Road.

The information was announced in Cedar Grove’s August 2026 manager’s memo, which recapped actions from the Monday, August 17 council meeting.

Township officials have said project information remains subject to change because of factors including funding and weather.
