Report Of Distressed Person In Woods Prompts Police Search In Somerset County
The search by Watchung Police officers included the use of drones, police canines and help from the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit.
WATCHUNG, NJ — Police launched an aerial search following a report of a person in distress in the woods in Watchung on Thursday morning, police said.
At around 7:45 a.m., the Watchung Police Department was contacted by a concerned person who believed they heard a person in distress in the wooded area between East Drive and Edgemont Road, said Watchung Police Chief Scott Anderle.
A coordinated search was launched by Watchung Police officers with the use of drone technology, police canines, and assistance from the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit.

Mountain Drive was also closed due to the search.
"The search did not locate any person or evidence indicating an emergency or threat to public safety," said Anderle.
