Wayne's COVID Testing Site At Former Macy's Closing After Thursday

The testing center opened in late December as the omicron waved surged. Since then, the virus's spread has tapered off.

WAYNE, NJ — The COVID-19 testing site at the former Macy's store in Wayne, which opened amid the omicron variant's surge, will close after Thursday.

The center opened in late December, as the demand for testing peaked throughout New Jersey and the nation. It will close as coronavirus cases continue to taper off.

The free testing site at 1210 Hamburg Tpke. is open to all New Jersey residents. The township provided the following details for those getting tested:

  • Ages 2-plus
  • Saliva test available
  • Appointments recommended, walk-ins welcome
  • Photo ID required
  • No insurance or prescription is needed
  • No eating, drinking, chewing gum or smoking 30 minutes before
  • Bring phone or tablet for registration

Passaic County hit a pandemic high of 2,349 new cases Jan. 7, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. Since then, cases have diminished, following a statewide and nationwide trend with the omicron wave. Passaic County averaged 47.9 infections per day in the past week, according to the state health department.
