Applications Due Soon: Don't Miss Westfield Youth Police Academy This Summer

STFIELD, NJ — Westfield students interested in learning what it's like to work in law enforcement have only a few days left to apply for the Westfield Police Department's 2026 Youth Academy.

The application deadline for the program is June 5, according to the police department.

The week-long academy is scheduled to run from July 13 through July 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and is designed to give participants a hands-on look at policing, public safety, and the criminal justice system.

According to the department, each day begins with military-style drill instruction and physical fitness training led by a certified Westfield Police Department fitness instructor and a current drill instructor from the John H. Stamler Police Academy.

Participants will also learn about criminal, juvenile and motor vehicle laws, the court system, crime prevention, criminal investigations, and basic first aid and CPR.

The academy will also feature guest speakers and live demonstrations from regional public safety agencies.

Westfield police described the program as an opportunity for students to train, learn and interact with officers while gaining a better understanding of careers in public safety.
