Attempted Car Burglaries, Warrant Arrests Reported In Westfield

WESTFIELD, NJ — Attempted car burglaries and warrant arrests were reported recently in Westfield.

On Sept. 21 at 1:06 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Windsor Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle burglary in progress. An unknown suspect entered a resident's vehicle and stole a spare key before being interrupted by the resident. Patrol units responded to the area; however, the suspect(s) fled the scene in a vehicle and were unable to be located.

On Sept. 21 at 1:06 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Windsor Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle burglary in progress. During a canvass of the area, they were alerted to an additional vehicle that the suspects had tried to enter; however, no access was gained. The suspect(s) fled the scene in a vehicle and were unable to be located.

On Sept. 21 at 12 p.m.: A resident of the 400 block of Lenox Avenue reported receiving two summonses by mail. The resident stated that the summonses were addressed to two separate individuals who are unknown to the resident and do not reside at the listed address. The resident is not experiencing any monetary loss but is concerned that the two individuals may have obtained licenses using the resident’s address.

On Sept. 21 at 3:47 p.m.: A resident in the 100 block of Marlboro Street reported being scammed out of $4,700 after a person posing as a Santander Bank employee instructed him to withdraw the funds and turn them over to a person sent to retrieve them. The victim later contacted Santander Bank and was advised that no such investigation existed and that he had been the victim of a scam.

On Sept. 21 at 7:58 p.m.: Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Central Avenue and Sussex Street regarding a BOLO for a wanted vehicle. Josel D. Holt, 52, of South Amboy, was placed under arrest under the strength of an active NCIC warrant for $16,031 issued by the Somerset County Sheriff's Office. He was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, processed, and taken to the respective agency where custody was transferred.

On Sept. 21 at 8:29 p.m.: Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Sylvania Place on a report of a theft. A resident reported that a diamond ring, valued at around $5,000, was recently stolen.

On Sept. 23 at 11:58 p.m.: Terrance Strother, 34, of Plainfield, was placed under arrest near the 600 block of West South Avenue on the strength of an active ACS warrant from Scotch Plains Municipal Court. Officers took him to Westfield Police Headquarters, where he was processed, and released on his own recognizance. Sadoc Cintron, 33, of Plainfield, was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia after a brief investigation. Officers took him to Trinitas Hospital for medical treatment, and he was released on a summons.

On Sept. 25 at 12:27 a.m.: Mikel Cavero-Vera, 24, of Queens, Corona, NY, was placed under arrest for an ATS warrant pursuant to a motor vehicle stop in the area of East South Avenue and Windsor Avenue. Cavero-Vera was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, where he posted bail and was released pending a new court date.

On Sept. 26 at 2:55 a.m.: Officer Perconte was in the 400 block of West South Avenue when he saw an individual enter an unoccupied structure. Perconte then made contact with the person, later identified as Edward Howard, 59, of Paterson. After further investigation, Perconte arrested Howard for criminal trespass. Upon searching the suspect, he was then charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. At Westfield Police Headquarters, the suspect gave officers a false name and was charged with hindering apprehension. The suspect was processed and released on a summons.

On Sept. 26 at 8:39 p.m.: Officers arrested Yekaterin Dyukova, 36, of Westfield, in the 100 block of Vernon Terrace under the strength of an active no bail NCIC warrant, issued by Raritan PD in Somerset County. Custody of Dyukova was transferred to the respective agency.

On Sept. 26 at 10:57 p.m.: Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of West North Avenue and West Dudley Avenue. Roody Borgella, 23, of Roselle, was arrested under the strength of an active traffic warrant issued by the Paterson Municipal Court for $300. He was released on scene upon the issuance of a ROR with a new court date.
