Big Changes Proposed For Tamaques Park In Westfield
Town officials are reviewing plans that could bring new trails, pickleball courts and a community center to the popular park.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield officials are reviewing a preliminary plan that could bring major changes to Tamaques Park, including a community center, pickleball courts and expanded walking trails.
The proposal was discussed during the Town Council’s May 5 meeting as consultants shared ideas developed through public meetings and a community survey that drew about 2,500 responses.
Mallory Clark of Dresner Robin said survey results showed residents placed a strong focus on trails and walkability throughout the park.

“When we started asking residents what they would actually use in the park, trails and walking paths quickly became a priority,” Clark said.
The concept plan also includes a proposed 12,000-square-foot multi-purpose building near a new athletic field.

"Imagine a space for wrestling, cheerleading, fitness classes and other community activities,” consultant Mark Robeson said.
Other proposed additions include a second entrance on Lamberts Mill Road to help traffic flow during busy events, along with trail markers and a community garden.
Robeson said some residents also raised concerns about navigating wooded areas and off-leash dogs in the park.
The town is continuing to collect public feedback on the proposal through May 26.
