Child Rescued After Getting Head Stuck At Westfield Park

WESTFIELD, NJ — A child was freed after getting their head stuck at Mindowaskin Park last week.

On Sept. 9, at around 11:30 a.m., a 911 call reported that a child’s head had become stuck between concrete columns at the park.

Officer Michael Pollock and Lieutenant Lauren Maloney walked over from Police Headquarters to help along with the Westfield Fire Department and EMS.

"Working together, Officer Pollock and Lieutenant Maloney climbed over the railing and positioned themselves on the ledge to help safely free the child," said police on Monday.

The child was freed without injury.

"We commend the quick response and teamwork of our officers, firefighters, and communications center in helping bring this situation to a safe conclusion," said police.
