Drunk Driver Charged In Fatal Crash With Pedestrian, Union Co. Prosecutor Says

ELIZABETH, NJ — An Elizabeth man who is being accused of driving drunk has been charged in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that happened earlier this year on North Broad Street, according to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel.

Adrian Campossevilla, 28, was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and third-degree strict liability vehicular homicide in the death of Donna Bass, 64, of Elizabeth.

On May 16 at about 11:28 p.m., a motor vehicle crash with a pedestrian was reported on North Broad Street near the 500 block of Newark Avenue.

Officers found Bass, who was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to police.

The investigation found that Campossevilla was driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding before hitting Bass as she crossed North Broad Street, said Daniel.

Campossevilla was arrested at the Elizabeth Police Department on Wednesday.

After his arrest, Campossevilla was processed and taken to the Essex County Jail, where he is awaiting his first court appearance.
