Many Thought It Was A Dog. Westfield Says It Was Something Else
Officials say there is no threat to the public and the animal was scheduled to be removed Monday.
WESTFIELD, NJ — An animal found deceased along East Broad Street near Wychview Drive prompted multiple calls to local officials in recent days, according to Westfield authorities.
Police said the animal, which was initially thought by some residents to be a dog, was identified as an apparent coyote. Officials confirmed the animal was dead at the time of the reports.
There is no active threat to the community, officials said.

Because of the number of calls received, police asked residents not to dial 911 about the situation. Anyone seeking additional information can contact the Westfield Police Department’s non-emergency line.
Authorities said the appropriate agencies were notified and the animal was scheduled to be removed Monday.
