A Space for Connection: Dedicating “Rita’s Room”

Recently, Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss held an intimate gathering to honor the life and legacy of Rita Glassman. Joined by her wife of 34 years, Sheryl Rosenfield, and her nieces, Dina and Johanna, the Imagine community made space to remember Rita’s joy, laughter and the deep love she held for her wife and family.

In a moving tribute, a room at Imagine where adult grief support groups meet has been officially named “Rita’s Room.” Sheryl worked lovingly to craft the language for the dedication plaque, ensuring it captured Rita’s unique spirit and heart. Here are some of Sheryl’s beautiful words included on the plaque: Smart, funny, vibrant and full of life, Rita brought joy wherever she went. Rita gave generously to causes she cared about, their charitable foundation proudly supports Imagine...Rita’s family knows she would be thrilled to be honored here. Now and always, “Rita’s Room” will be a space where empathy, connection, support – and laughter – thrive.

Sheryl’s connection to Imagine is a testament to the power of the organization's mission. She was introduced to the center by her niece, Dina Glasofer, a longtime supporter of Imagine.Her grandniece, Lauren, has served as a dedicated youth facilitator since 2024. This multi-generational involvement reflects a common thread at Imagine: when individuals experience the profound impact of Imagine’s programs, they are inspired to invite others into the circle.

Imagine’s Executive Director, Lindsay Schambach shared this after attending the room dedication: “We are so honored to recognize Sheryl and her family as members of our community of supporters. Partnering with her to dedicate this room ensures that Rita’s memory continues to foster the very thing Imagine strives for every day: community, resilience, and hope.”

Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss is a 501c3 that offers training and education on loss and grief to the community and free year-round grief support groups for children ages 3-18 and young adults 19-30 who are coping with a loss due to death. Concurrently, support groups are available for the parents and caregivers of the children in the groups and offered in English and Spanish. Imagine has centers in Newark and Mountainside and offers virtual groups as well.
