Summer thoughts quickly turn to fall activities

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — As the summer goes into full swing, Temple Sholom of Scotch Plains is preparing to welcome families back for another year of religious education, offering a schedule built around the realities of busy family life rather than a one-size-fits-all model.

The congregation's program for children in Pre-K through 6th grade includes several formats families: a monthly Saturday morning "Pray & Play" family Shabbat experience; Tuesday afternoon Hebrew School; weekly one-on-one Hebrew instruction offered in-person or virtually; an optional Sunday "Fun Day" with additional programming; and a dedicated Sunday morning class for Pre-K through 2nd grade. Older students preparing for B'nai Mitzvah receive an individualized track tailored to their pace and interests.

The offerings reflect a broader philosophy at Temple Sholom, which was founded in Plainfield, NJ, in November 1913 and has adapted repeatedly over more than a century to meet the needs of a changing Jewish community. Today the congregation describes itself as intentionally warm and welcoming, drawing member families from a wide range of backgrounds who have found a shared home there.

Families interested in learning more are invited to attend a Friday Shabbat service or schedule a tour of the synagogue.
