SUV Slams Into House After 2-Car Crash In Union County

LINDEN, NJ — An SUV went careening into a Linden home following a two-car crash, leaving it uninhabitable for residents on Tuesday night, police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., a serious motor vehicle crash was reported at the intersection of E. Linden Avenue and Carteret Street that ended with one vehicle slamming into a house on the 200 block of E. Linden Ave.

According to reports, a 2007 Ford SUV was driving west on E. Linden Avenue when it crashed with a 2009 sedan driving south on Carteret Street.

After the impact, the Ford continued across a front lawn, broke through a fence and crashed into the home, said Linden Police.

The driver of the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Trinitas Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash caused extensive damage to the home's foundation.

Linden firefighters shut off the utilities as a precaution, and the home was declared uninhabitable.

The American Red Cross provided help to the residents.

Police said the driver of the Honda fled the scene but was later identified as a 66-year-old Elizabeth woman. She was issued multiple summonses.

Police did not identify the Elizabeth woman or release additional details about the summonses.
